"Made for Women by Women": A Sultan's Fair

The Sultan’s Fairs have become a fixture in the schedule of MASQ activities. The fair on Saturday, 2 March 2024 was a “Made for Women by Women” bazaar at the MASQ that supported women handcraft makers of Cairo, one in a series of events in March to celebrate and support women.

"Visit Qaitbey" guided walking tour

Another “Visit Qaitbey” guided walking tour through the Desert of the Mamluks area was organised on 2 March 2024 as part of a series of events entitled “The Artist and Her Muse: A Legacy of Women” celebrating women artists in the outstanding historical context of the Sultan Qaitbey neighbourhood.

"Cairo: a Tapestry of Tales" - Exhibition by Mohamed Abla

On 20 January 2024, a huge exhibition by the renowned Egyptian artist Mohamed Abla titled “Cairo: a tapestry of tales” opened in the MASQ cultural hub spaces in the maq‘ad of Sultan Qaitbey and oratory of Gulshani and in the neighbouring CRAFTASTIC! crafts centre and gallery. The works comprised paintings in various techniques and sculptures.

'Panta Rhei' - Hungarian Contemporary Dance Performance at the MASQ

On Saturday 11 June 2022, the Hungarian dancing duet Dorottya and David Diko performed at the Maq‘ad of Sultan Qaitbey (MASQ) at an event organized in cooperation with the Liszt Institute: Hungarian Cultural Center in Cairo.

I Am One and also Two

The art exhibition opened at the MASQ on 28 May 2022 presented the works of ten artists that explored in different media and techniques various aspects of the interrelation between Egyptian and European cultures. The well-attended opening was accompanied by a concert by Sheerin ‘Abdo and a “Sultan’s Fair” of handcrafts.

Mediterranean Music and Egyptian Crafts

The Estabena band, the Mediterranean Sea Music Project that brings together musicians and tunes from around the Mediterranean, performed at the MASQ on 10 May 2022. The event was accompanied by another “Sultan’s Fair” promoting traditional crafts. A walking tour for special guests was carried out on the same day.
