“Cairo My Love” – Closing Events of the Season

This spring, the MASQ (Multicultural Artistic Spaces at Qaitbey’s), run by ARCHiNOS and its sister organization the Sultan Foundation, organized on four occasions a series of events celebrating Cairo, the City Victorious in various ways. The final, fourth event on 31 May 2025 featured:

– A guided walking tour through the “Desert of the Mamluks” highlighting both its outstanding mediaeval Mamluk heritage and the remarkable “Mamluk Revival” architecture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries;
– A “Sultan’s Fair” offering books on Cairo’s history and urban life alongside handcrafted works by local Qaitbey artisans;
– Opening of the exhibition “Cairo Between the Planned and the Lived” by Azza Ezzat that captures Cairo’s emotional and spatial complexity, where urban planning meets daily improvisation.
– A lecture “Mobility as Daily Life: An Ethnographic Reading of Cairo’s Transport Boom” by Dr Dalia Wahdan
– A concert “Bahiyya Live @ MASQ” in which the acclaimed Egyptian group reinterpreted timeless songs by Sayyid Darwish and Shaykh Imam with jazz and funk influences.
