“Cairo: a Tapestry of Tales” – Exhibition by Mohamed Abla
20 January 2024
On 20 January 2024, a huge exhibition by the renowned Egyptian artist Mohamed Abla titled “Cairo: a tapestry of tales” opened in the MASQ cultural hub spaces in the maq‘ad of Sultan Qaitbey and oratory of Gulshani and in the neighbouring CRAFTASTIC! crafts centre and gallery. The works comprised paintings in various techniques and sculptures. It was on display through 20 February and was very well attended.
In the artist’s own words:
Ah, Cairo! A city where ancient whispers sing to modern rhythms, a vibrant tapestry woven from the threads of pharaohs’ robes and neon lights, minarets and skyscrapers … “Cairo: A Tapestry of Tales” is more than an exhibition; it’s an invitation to lose yourself in the labyrinthine streets, to feel the pulse of thousands of lives … Step into the vibrant chaos, let the colours guide your way, and discover the magic that awaits in Cairo’s heart.
Social and cultural activities at the MASQ are carried out by ARCHiNOS and its sister not-for profit organisation the Sultan Foundation and are financed primarily by the European Union and the Drosos Foundation.
