“Daughters of Bastet” Sculpture Exhibition

28 September 2024

A solo exhibition of sculptures by the Egyptian artist Zeinab Sobhy titled “Bastet’s Daughters” opened on 28 September 2024 at the CRAFTASTIC! arts and crafts centre beside the mosque of Sultan Qaitbey. The captivating sculptures explored the symbolism of Bastet, the ancient Egyptian goddess of protection, home, and fertility, while drawing inspiration from the resilience of Cairo’s street cats. The artist’s work offered a unique blend of history and modern life, portraying femininity and strength in ways that link ancient traditions with contemporary Egyptian culture. The well-attended exhibition was on display until 24 October.

Social and cultural activities at the MASQ are carried out by ARCHiNOS and its sister not-for profit organisation the Sultan Foundation and are financed primarily by the European Union.
