Monday 24 July 2023 saw a Japanese Day celebrated at the CRAFTASTIC! crafts and arts centre that is located next to the iconic mosque of Sultan Qaitbey in the “Desert of the Mamluks” in an unlisted historic building renovated by ARCHiNOS. At the event organized in cooperation with the Japanese Embassy and attended by the Ambassador, the local inhabitants and the guests could write their names in Japanese script, try on a yukata, a traditional Japanese garment, learn the secrets of origami (some from very young instructors), and enjoy a screening of the film ‘Our Family’ (directed by Yuya Ishii, 2014) with Arabic subtitles.
