The Sculpture for the People symposium that begun on 22 May 2023 and will last two weeks brings together artists from Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt who came to Cairo to create monumental pieces in stone that will adorn the Qaitbey neighbourhood in the “Desert of the Mamluks”. Their contemporary art will be in dialogue with the extraordinary mastery of stone carving in the area’s mediaeval monuments.
Part of the ARCHiNOS’ project in the neighbourhood financed primarily by the European Union, the symposium is co-sponsored by the Beirut-based Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC).
